Detailed itinerary of 3 days Rwanda mountain gorilla trekking safari
Day 1: pick up, Kigali city tour and transfer to volcanoes national park
On the 1st day of the safari you are to be picked from your hotel after early morning breakfast by your safari driver/guide, from the hotel you will head for a city tour in Kigali city the cleanliest city in Africa. On the city tour you will visit Kigali genocide memorial center a site commemorating the massive killing of thousands of Rwandese in a massacre termed as the 1994 Rwanda genocide, Kimironko market for purchasing souvenirs, handcrafts, clothes and fresh food. You will also visit Rugunga’s caplaki craft center for beautiful crafts such as craft shoes, beautiful jewelry, bags and many more. After the city tour you will have lunch and then set off on a drive to Ruhengeri heading to Volcanoes national park, on your way you will enjoy scenic views of the green rolling hills and local people going on with their day today life. When you arrive in the park you will check into your lodge and rest, in the evening you will have dinner and stay overnight at your lodge.

Day 2: mountain gorilla trekking
On the 2nd day of the safari you will have early breakfast at your lodge, meet your safari driver and head to volcanoes national park’s headquarters for briefing, in the briefing a ranger takes you through how to conduct while the presence of mountain gorillas. You will also be grouped in groups of 8 people and then be assigned a group to trek, then you will head into the forests of volcanoes national park in search for mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Find mountain gorillas takes about 2-4 hours depending on the movement of mountain gorillas and where they spent the previous night, while in the presence of mountain gorillas you are allowed to spend for only one hour. While in the presence of mountain gorillas you will enjoy observing them feeding, pick fruits and interacting with each other, you are also allowed to take pictures as long as your flashlight is off. After your encounter with mountain gorillas you will trek back to the park’s headquarters, meet your safari driver and head back to your lodge. In the afternoon you will head to Iby’Iwacu village for a cultural visit, Iby’Iwacu village is also referred to as the gorilla guardian village and is a non-profit organization for former poachers aimed at improving the lives of these people. While in this cultural village you will interact with the local people, be entertained by local dances and drama, experience Igitaramo where you all gather around the campfire with drums as you dance and sing, exchange riddles and stories from elders. After the experience you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.
Day 3: cave tour and transfer back to Kigali
On the 3rd day of the safari you will have early breakfast, checkout of your lodge and head to Ruhengeri for a cave tour in Musanze caves, Musanze caves are series of caves over 32 caves situated below the foothills of volcanoes national park and they run for 2 kilometers. Musanze caves tour takes about one and half hours of touring and in the caves, you will encounter a lush of green inside the caves and bats hanging on the walls, after the experience you will embark on your drive back to Kigali. Once in Kigali you will be dropped either at your hotel or at Kigali international airport to catch your flight back home.
