Kahuzi Biega National park
Kahuzi Biega national park is blessed with the biggest number of the eastern lowland gorillas.Kahuzi-Biega is also a home to two massive extinct volcanoes. They include volcanoes of moutain kahuzi and mount Biega.
Kahuzi-Biega national park is an outstanding habitant with a very different wildlife species like the;the bongo antelope, Eastern lowland gorillas, eastern needle- clawed galago, the Mount Kahuzi climbing mouse, Alexander’s bush squirrelamong others.
Bukavu twon in Congo stands as a link to Kahuzi-Biega National park, travellers from either Uganda or Rwanda have to go through Bukavu town. It is roughly 30km from the boarder. With a number of gorilla families in the park as well as chimpazee, Kihuzi-Biega is also a habitat to Monkeys,buffalos, antelops plus forest elephants.
Mountain Kahuzi
Mountain Kihuzi is the highest peak in the park, it is approximately 3,308m above sea level. Mountain Kihuzi is a good one for mountain climbers though noty very long,it’s hike takes roughly 4hours, it takes you through the bamboo forst and sub alpine vegetation. It then takes 3 hours to descend. While at the top most, it gives a very beautiful view of Lskae kivu and Bukavu town.
Mountain Biega
It being the second highest peak in the park, Mountain Biega sits at an altitude of approximately 2790m.With a different kind of vegetation,it is a wonderful ecological experience out of this world.
Hiking mountain Biega gives another experience where it’s climb is roughly 6 hours to trhe top and back.

Hiking to the summit of mountain Kahazi offers breathtaking views of the town and Lake Kivu which takes about 4 hours and descending takes three hours. When climbing and descending you get to bypass bamboo forests and sub alpine vegetation filled with a lot of birds and other animals. Mountain Biega takes 6 hours to climb up to the summit and descend back with great views of the surrounding landscape spotted.
