5 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking and Nyiragongo Hike Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Gisenyi.
On arrival in Kigali, the guide will pick you from the airport and give you a detailed briefing on your 5 Days Congo Gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hike safari. You will then set off for Gisenyi by the shore of Lake Kivu. Here, you will spend the evening with amazing views of the Lake. You will have an option of a boat cruise on the Lake.
Day 2: Transfer From Gisenyi to Kibumba Tented camp.
On the second day of this Gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hike safari, we will cross the border at Grande Barriere and check into the Virunga offices. Here, we will be presented with our gorilla trekking permits and the hiking permits for the safari activities. These permits have to be presented at the start of every activity. We will then continue to our lodge for a relaxing afternoon in preparation for gorilla trek.
Day 3; Gorilla trekking
After an early breakfast, we will proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing. In this briefing, we will be given guidelines to gorilla trekking. This will help us have an enjoyable gorilla trek. We will be allocated gorilla families to trek and rangers who will lead the trek.
When we encounter the gorillas, we will spend an hour with them. The ranges will answer any questions we might have. We will observe them as they eat and interact with one another. We will then return to the lodge for lunch. Later in the evening, we can opt for a nature walk or enjoy the view at the lodge.
Day 4: Nyiragongo Volcano Hike
After a restful night, we will make an early breakfast as we prepare for our hike up the Nyiragongo Volcano. We will head to Kibati ranger post for a briefing and an opportunity to hire porters for the hike. Depending on your level of fitness, the hike should last up to 6 hours. The hiking trail will take you through lava rocks, open spaces and forested areas. The hike offers stunning views of the boiling lava which emits a red glow. You will take amazing photos of the active volcano. We will retire to the lodge tha is located at the rim of this volcano.
Day 5: Descending from Nyiragongo Volcano and Transfer to Kigali
On the last day of the Gorilla trekking safari, we will start our descent back to the park headquarters. This descent will take up to 4 hours. At the bottom, the guide will drive you back to Kigali through the Grande Barriere border. The guide will drop you at your hotel or airport and that will mark the end of your Congo Gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hike safari.
